In my attempt to convince you that not all good music is coming from the English speaking countries, but there here in Europe we've got some truly amazing bands that'll play any of those wimpy English indie bands away and some of those yanks too, I'm bringing you an interview with Scandinavia's hottest band TRBNGR from Norway. They have two 7"s out on the Sympathy For The Record Industry label which shouldn't be too hard to get, and a couple of domestic releases too from which those 7"s are taken.
Together with their answers they sent me their brand new CD on Big Ball which will later also be out on Intellectual Convulsion from France and I can't say how good this is. I've been playing this disc all day, some truly heavy stuff going on here, imagine a mix of NoNoYesNo, Skin Yard, Laughing Hyaenas and lots of punk, sex and dirt and you're a little bit close ... Influences: Venom, Radio Birdman, Motorhead, Germs.

Questions are answered by Bongo Neger (22): drums. The rest of the band is Harry Neger (43): vocals; Brune Neger (26): guitar; Max Neger (22): guitar; Bingo Neger (22½): bass.

Pitsbull: I heard some of you were in a hardcore band before TRBNGR, can you tell us about that.

Bongo: Me and Bingo played in a hard-core band called Akutt Innleggelse. We started in 1983 and released one hell of a 7" on Straitjacket Records. We jumped off the hard-core bandwagon when everybody else started wearing so-called dreadlocks and started protesting dildo-import etc. I was also in an Norwegian grunge-combo Anal Babes, under the name Porn Violence (as if anyone would give the slightest FUCK). I played guitar there. Bingo is also the leader of notorious low-quality-drug metal trio Black & Decker (both bands on Shit Too Early LP). Harry sang in one of Norways first punkbands Hærverk. He is now the father of two adorable children, Karl and Hanna, but is unfortunately a Soundgarden fan.

Pitsbull: Evident question: What does the name stand for ?

Bongo: The full name of our band is TURBONEGRO, but we are gutless wimps, so we spell it TRBNGR. A Turbonegro is a large well-equipped, armed black male, in a fast car, out for VENGEANCE. We are his prophets.

Pitsbull: You did a US tour in september 1990. How did it go & was it an official one ?

Bongo: It was unofficial and terrifying. We played 8 gigs, we played in a speedmetal rehearsal room in Aurora, Illenois, and a lesbian bar in Seattle full of Grateful Dead fans who left. Other highlights include receiving a king-size bottle of Mescal from punkrock royalty Poison Idea.

Pitsbull: Was it there that you came in contact with Sympathy ?

Bongo: Our first Sympathy 7" was released at this time (fall '90).

Pitsbull: Is Sympathy going to release more stuff and how are those two 7"s going ?

Bongo: We do not know if we will release more stuff on Sympathy, hopefully we will, but it's a pain in der arsch to write songs. The two 7"s are going well.

Pitsbull: Isn't it odd that it took an American label to get you noticed in the rest of Europe ?

Bongo: Yes.

Pitsbull: You started playing on a Hells Angels party in Copenhagen three weeks after the band was founded. Still do that ?

Bongo: No.

Pitsbull: You wrote me you are No(r)ways most hated band and are proud of it. Why do people in Norway hate you ? Because you are too good for them or their taste is too mediocre ?

Bongo: Both. Norway is full of stupid fucking Led Zeppelin-fans who want local bands to sound just like American bands.

Pitsbull: What were the domestic reactions on that US-tour and the fact that a US-label is releasing your stuff ?

Bongo: People simply try to ignore us, but they can't any more since we reached the TOP 40 list last week with our CD "Hot Cars And Spent Contraceptives". The kids love us, the indie-scenesters hate us. (they sent me a clipping from Norway's top 50, TRBNGR came in on number 40 !!!)

Pitsbull: Anything definite yet about your plans to tour Europe ?

Bongo: This CD will be released on Intellectual Convulsion this summer (in a different version) and we are trying hard to put together a European tour. Contact Big Ball if you can help us - ask for Herr Fuck !

Pitsbull: What kinda labels are Big Ball and Straitjacket ?

Bongo: Straitjacket and Big Ball are in fact record labels.

Pitsbull: How did you get in touch with Intellectual Convulsion ?

Bongo: Through Mistah Scrotum at Big Ball. He is a record collector. BANDS ! SEND FREE PROMO STUFF TO HIM : PREFERABLY EXPENSIVE METAL CASSETTES W/O ANYTHING WRITTEN ON THEM (OR VINYL !). HE GIVES O.K. HEAD.

Pitsbull: Do you get much opportunities to play Norway or other Scandinavian countries ?

Bongo: We play quite a lot in Norway, we have also played three shows in Denmark, a great country.

Pitsbull: What's the general scene like in Norway. Are there any other bands that play in the same vein as TRBNGR ?

Bongo: It sucks the big one, but ok, there do exist other bands such as the Anal Babes, and Lust-O-Rama, a great sixties-R'n'B-group. Our ex-bass-player is in that band.

Pitsbull: Final question: what would you like us to write on the toiletwall of our local hangout ?

Bongo: This is a hard one. Either "KILL KILL KILL FOR INNER PEACE !" or "DON'T FORGET TO FORGET" or "CLITORAL ORGASMS - DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE !"
